Be the Change
Arranged by Bryon Black II
Available for SATB, SAB, and 2-Part Voices
With piano and opt. percussion (improvisation encouraged!)

I was commissioned to arrange Marc Kaplan’s & Colin Britt’s piece from the Justice Choir Songbook for the Kent State University’s School of Music, reflecting on the tragic KSU shootings on May 4, 1970. It was performed by their combined KSU Choirs, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and African Ensemble. I arranged the choral score to be very flexible for performance. You may replace some of the solo cues with assorted improvised percussion (djembe, shakers, tambourine, etc.), other pitched instruments, pianist improvisation, or even your singers! Part of my inspiration was the collaborative performance on YouTube by music teacher Colleen Thompson, featuring a vamp with her own vocal solos and her colleagues playing various instruments.

Performed by the Kent State University School of Music, conducted by Bryon Black II, 2022 (SATB voicing)

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Arranged by Bryon Black II
SATB div. with Soloist

This a cappella hymn arrangement is good for a choir with relatively good sustained intonation. The voice writing is simple, supporting the soloist as a gentle vocal accompaniment.

Cost: $3.00/score

Performed by the Tallmadge Lutheran Church Chancel Choir, conducted by Bryon Black II, 2019

Lamb of God
Arranged by Bryon Black II
SATB with piano

A fine anthem for a church choir or any ensemble looking for an accessible but unique arrangement of Twila Paris’ famous hymn tune.

Cost: $3.00/score

MIDI sample audio: Lamb of God, 2017

Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Arranged by Bryon Black II
SA(T)B a cappella

I arranged this hymn for my church choir in the midst of the challenging 2020-2021 “socially distant/masked choir” season. This is a good Easter Sunday hymn arrangement for modest choirs with limited tenors and basses. While a cappella, the lyricism is accessible while being just interesting enough to keep the singer and listener engaged.

Cost: $2.50/score

Performed by the Tallmadge Lutheran Church Chancel Choir, conducted by Bryon Black II, Easter 2021
